International Workshop on Principles and Practices of Autonomic Software Systems 26-28 May, 2011 |

Goals and Description: Today the complexity of computing systems is beginning to overwhelm the human capabilities in designing and managing software and network systems. Autonomic computing has been proposed to reduce this complexity by means of self-management techniques that aim at limiting human intervention. The autonomic computing paradigm was first introduced by IBM in 2001. It is inspired from biological systems and it has four major properties: Self-configuration (ability of performing configurations depending on pre-defined policies) In recent years, autonomic computing has gained extensive interest from various areas, including computer systems, architecture, databases, machine learning and control theory. Many commercial products such as IBM's SMART and Micrososft's AutoAdmin also began to rely on self-management and other autonomic computing techniques. Many conferences and workshops devoted to autonomic computing were held. Despite these efforts, autonomics is still an emerging research area and needs to be studied both in theory and practice. The 1 st workshop on on Principles and Practices of Autonomic Software Systems aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners across various disciplines to address a wide range of issues in autonomic computing. It will be held in conjunction with ICASE-11 International Conference on Advanced Software Engineering (http://www.ftrai.org/icase2011). |
